Steven Schick moderates a conversation with listeners and musicians at five informal events devoted to the understanding and appreciation of new music. Each time, the ensemble performs one piece from the upcoming concert program, and the composer is often present to discuss the work. Audience members consistently praise Contemporary Insights events as a unique opportunity to become familiar with a new piece before hearing it again in concert. Afterward, join us at a complimentary reception to meet the artists.

About the piece:
John Cage's Credo in Us,his first collaboration with choreographer Merce Cunningham, was premiered at Bennington College in 1942. The piece will be performed by a pianist (Julie Steinberg) and two percussionists (William Winant and Daniel Kennedy), accompanied by a fourth musician (Steven Schick) who operates a radio - an early instance of the chance procedures that Cage famously incorporated into music in various ways throughout his life.
