Contemporary Insights: Music and Conversation

Sunday, April 25, 2010 4:30 pm
ODC Dance Commons, San Francisco

Each Contemporary Insights event focuses on a single piece from the following Monday’s concert. Composers and musicians talk about the piece, and the musicians demonstrate parts of it. After performing the work in its entirety, the musicians elicit reactions, answer questions, and talk with the audience.
The audience is invited to stay for wine and hors d’oeuvres afterwards.

Program:
Philippe Hurel, Figures libres for flute, oboe, clarinet, percussion, piano, violin, viola, and cello.
Christian Baldini conducts.

Philippe Hurel joins us to discuss what he calls his most thematic piece. He writes, “What I wanted to show in the title is that certain emblematic figures escape the constraints given at the start: the idea that it is possible for an artist or an athlete… to find, within the formalized discourse of a network of constraints, his own space of freedom.”

Tickets: $10 general, $5 students.
Buy tickets on our secure order form or purchase at the door.
