Monday, October 6, 2008 8 pm
Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Forum

Pre-concert talk begins at 7:15 pm.

Program:
György Ligeti, Síppal, dobbal, nádihegedüvel

Franck Bedrossian, Digital (U.S. premiere)
Maki Ishii, Fourteen Percussions
Maki Ishii, Image in the Forest

Featuring:
Christopher Froh, percussion
Karen Gottlieb, harp
Mary Nessinger, mezzo-soprano

Percussion takes center stage in this exhilarating concert. Hear familiar instruments played in unfamiliar ways, and immerse yourself in the one-of-a-kind sound world of György Ligeti’s delightfully ambitious work for mezzo-soprano and four percussion. Franck Bedrossian explodes the limits of the rhythm section in Digital for percussion, contrabass and electronics, while Maki Ishii bestrides musical East and West in a beguiling reminiscence for harp and a dynamic percussion duo.

Composers Franck Bedrossian and Yiorgos Vassilandonakis will participate in a pre-concert talk, moderated by David Milnes.

$28 general, $23 senior, $10 student
